At Derrington Orthopedics- Interventional Sports and Spine, we provide innovative orthopedic care to treat acute and chronic injuries affecting all areas of the body. Dr. Stephen Derrington, an expertly trained physician, is able to provide accurate diagnoses through the use of a comprehensive history, physical examination, and review of imaging. Treatments utilize state-of-the-art technology to safely and accurately treat these conditions, harnessing the body’s innate ability to heal itself. Our goal is to help all of our patients return to the activities they love to do.

Stephen Derrington, D.O.

Dr. Stephen Derrington has been providing care to the Derrington Orthopedic family of patients since 2016. In 2020, he took over as owner and medical director of Derrington Orthopedics (previously Health Link Medical Center) San Diego and Orange County clinic locations. Now under Dr. Derrington’s direction, these clinics continue to provide the premier care that they have always offered as the first Regenexx providers in California.

As a doctor of osteopathic medicine, he understands the connection between structure and function and devises holistic treatment plans to help the body heal itself without surgical intervention.

Education

After graduating from medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, he completed his internship at Wellington Regional Medical Center in Wellington, Florida and residency at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Derrington then completed a fellowship in Napa, California, with Marko Bodor, M.D., advancing his skills in diagnostic ultrasound and interventional procedures using ultrasound and fluoroscopic guidance, regenerative medicine, and electrodiagnostics. Dr. Derrington continues his regenerative medicine training with Regenexx and the Interventional Orthobiologic Foundation and helps educate fellow physicians as an expert instructor for the Interventional Orthobiologic Foundation.

Dr. Derrington has published papers and textbook chapters on spine procedures, tendon disorders, and ultrasound-guided injection techniques.

Hobbies

When not seeing patients or teaching, Dr. Derrington stays active via CrossFit and enjoys eating good food, listening to good music, and exploring the world with his family.
